Map Generalization: Theory, Practice and Economics
نویسنده
چکیده
The theory of map generalization is discussed with particular reference to the processes of simplification and classification. Both of these processes are used extensively in computer-assisted cartography; however, a comprehensive, flexible software package has not yet been organized from the myriad of algorithms available. Further, systematic use of algorithms, based on the reasons for generalizing in car tography, is not common practice. ¥hen viewed in respect to the reasons for gener alization, the costs of using a theoretically based algorithm can easily be absorbed in most computer-assisted cartographic situations.

Multivalued Maps As a Tool in Modeling and Rigorous Numerics
Applications of the fixed point theory of multivalued maps can be classified into several areas: (1) Game theory and mathematical economics; (2) Discontinuous differential equations and differential inclusions; (3) Computing homology of maps; (4) Conley index methods in chaotic dynamics; (5) Digital imaging and computer vision. We briefly recall the history of the most classical and well develo...
متن کاملIrrigation Water Pricing in Iran: The Gap between Theory and Practice
Pricing policies play an important role in water demand management and its optimal allocation. Determining proper water price leads to optimal allocation of water especially in agricultural consumptions. Applying new subsidy targeting law in Iran which insists on pricing water based on its supply cost, will effects considerably on water resource management in agriculture sector. So, in this stu...
متن کاملStructure of the Fixed Point of Condensing Set-Valued Maps
In this paper, we present structure of the fixed point set results for condensing set-valued map. Also, we prove a generalization of the Krasnosel'skii-Perov connectedness principle to the case of condensing set-valued maps.
متن کاملDisease Control Priorities Third Edition: Time to Put a Theory of Change Into Practice; Comment on “Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Is Published: A Theory of Change Is Needed for Translating Evidence to Health Policy”
The Disease Control Priorities program (DCP) has pioneered the use of economic evidence in health. The theory of change (ToC) put forward by Norheim is a further welcome and necessary step towards translating DCP evidence into better priority setting in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We also agree that institutionalising evidence for informed priority-setting processes is crucial. Un...
متن کاملConstructing Buildings and Harmonic Maps
In a continuation of our previous work [20], we outline a theory which should lead to the construction of a universal pre-building and versal building with a φ-harmonic map from a Riemann surface, in the case of two-dimensional buildings for the group SL3. This will provide a generalization of the space of leaves of the foliation defined by a quadratic differential in the classical theory for S...
